Selection Process for Team Mongolia – International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) 2027

The Mongolian Geography Olympiad Committee will organize a national selection process to identify students who will represent Mongolia at the 2027 International Geography Olympiad (iGeo).

The selection process will consist of six rounds:

• Rounds 1–3: Online examinations

• Rounds 4–6: In-person examinations

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

1. Age requirement
   Applicants must be 16–19 years old as of 1 August 2027. Accordingly, eligible participants must have been born between 2 August 2007 and 1 August 2011, inclusive.

2. Olympiad achievement
   Applicants must have won a medal in either the National Geography Olympiad or the Ulaanbaatar City Geography Olympiad.

3. English proficiency
   Applicants must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate in English at a level sufficient for advanced geographical study and competition. Participants are expected to interpret geographical texts, maps, graphs, statistical data, diagrams, and other source materials and to formulate clear, evidence-based geographical explanations and arguments in English.

4. Commitment to the full selection process
   Applicants are expected to participate in all required rounds of the selection process and comply with the examination regulations established by the organizing committee.

Registration

Registration will close at 23:59 on 24 September 2026.

Late registrations will not be accepted.

Arrangements for Participants from Remote Areas

Students residing in remote areas who are unable to travel to Ulaanbaatar for the in-person rounds may be permitted to sit the examination online under special supervised arrangements.

A request for remote participation must be submitted at least three days before the relevant selection examination to:

Approval for remote participation is subject to the examination security and supervision requirements of the organizing committee.

Online Examination Requirements

Online examinations will be administered through Exam.net. Participants will receive an examination access key for the relevant test.

To ensure the integrity and fairness of the selection process, participants must comply with the following requirements throughout the examination:

• Sit the examination individually in a quiet and interruption-free environment.

• Use a computer with a functioning webcam, microphone, and stable internet connection.

• Join the Google Meet link provided on the official selection website before the examination begins.

• Keep the webcam switched on for the entire examination and remain clearly visible to the invigilator.

• Complete the examination independently and without assistance from teachers, parents, other students, or any other person.

• Follow all instructions issued by the examination supervisors.

• Allow the required screen recording/monitoring during the examination.

• Access the examination only through the designated Exam.net examination key and comply with all Exam.net security restrictions.

• Not use unauthorized websites, communication applications, artificial intelligence tools, reference materials, additional devices, or other external assistance unless specifically permitted for a particular examination.

Any attempt to receive outside assistance, share examination content, use unauthorized resources, interfere with monitoring procedures, or otherwise compromise the integrity of the examination may result in disqualification from the selection process.

Purpose of the Selection

The six-round selection process is designed to identify students with strong geographical knowledge and, more importantly, the ability to apply geographical concepts through map interpretation, spatial analysis, data interpretation, geographical reasoning, problem solving, and written geographical communication in English.

Successful candidates from the selection process will be considered for the team representing Mongolia at the 2027 International Geography Olympiad (iGeo).
